Learning outcomes

  • Triage a mixed queue using ageing, risk tags, and owner clarity.
  • Draft evidence requests that name the exact artefact needed.
  • Write escalation notes that survive a second pair of eyes.
  • Close exceptions with language that matches your firm’s risk appetite.
  • Spot when a “resolved” item is only parked under a softer label.

Modules

1. Mapping the morning board

How to open the day without drowning in every red cell.

2. Sampling logic in plain English

Connect the exception back to the control test that produced it.

3. Evidence that travels

Request, attach, and label artefacts so a reviewer does not re-ask.

4. Escalation without theatre

Decide when to push, what to include, and how to keep ownership clear.

5. Close-out language

Write decisions that hold up in file review and partner skim.

6. Capstone ageing board

FAQ

Do I need a specific vendor’s app?

No. We teach patterns that map onto most audit exceptions review apps. Screenshots in materials are generic mock-ups.

Is prior audit experience required?

Yes — this is not an introduction to controls. You should already handle exceptions as part of your role.

What is a real limitation of this course?

We do not configure your software, write your firm’s policy, or reduce your month-end volume. If your bottleneck is headcount or upstream data quality, training alone will not clear the board.

How is feedback delivered?

Desk Pass receives one written markup. Review Bench includes live sessions plus two marked submissions.

Course reviews

“Module 4 changed how I escalate. I used to paste the whole thread; now I lead with the decision needed.”

James R., SOX analyst · Manchester

“Solid on note quality. I wanted more on automated ageing rules — that sits outside the curriculum, so plan accordingly.”
